A registered sex offender with a lengthy history of inappropriate behavior targeting women in the San Fernando Valley faces new charges after police arrested him last week following multiple incidents at retail stores in Glendale, California.

Latest Arrest Following Store Incidents

Glendale Police Department officers arrested Calese Crowder, 39, on Friday after responding to reports at a business on Glenoaks Boulevard near Jefferson Elementary School. Surveillance footage from Big Sav Discount Store captured Crowder crouching near a female employee who was stocking shelves. Store manager Jimmy Koh confirmed this marked the third incident involving the suspect at his location. Koh stated that Crowder would crouch down and wait for opportunities to engage in his inappropriate behavior toward female customers and staff.

Officers also responded to a Marshalls store near South Brand Boulevard and East Broadway regarding similar conduct. Police reviewed surveillance footage from both businesses, identified Crowder, and located him in the 100 block of South Brand Boulevard. Authorities arrested him for violating his parole terms, and he remains held without bail while awaiting court proceedings.

Pattern of Criminal Behavior

Crowder’s criminal record includes multiple arrests dating back to 2021 for lewd conduct in Glendale and Burbank. In August 2025, police re-arrested him following another incident at a Walgreens store in Burbank. He was already on parole at that time. One month before the Walgreens arrest, officers took Crowder into custody after receiving reports of suspicious activity in the women’s department at Nordstrom Rack in the Burbank Empire Center. Police later found him at a nearby Walmart, where witnesses observed him following a female shopper through the store.

Court records show Crowder admitted to violating his parole last year and served more than 100 days in jail. His status as a registered sex offender stems from these repeated offenses targeting women in retail environments throughout the San Fernando Valley.

Public Safety Concerns

The case gained widespread attention in August 2023 when Michaela Witter posted a video on social media showing an encounter with Crowder at a Barnes and Noble bookstore in Burbank. The video, which received millions of views, showed Crowder crouching near Witter. When confronted, he claimed he was tying his shoes, though Witter suspected otherwise. This incident led to stalking charges against Crowder, who spent 60 days in jail for peeping and prowling offenses.

The repeated arrests raise questions about parole supervision and public safety measures for repeat offenders. Store managers and employees now recognize Crowder and remain vigilant about protecting customers and staff from his unwanted advances. The court will determine the next steps in his case.
