A chapter president of the Mongols motorcycle gang faces multiple felony charges after Volusia County sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at a Deltona home where drug sales were allegedly taking place, with two children present during the arrest.
Search Warrant Yields Cocaine and Firearms
Jose Vega was taken into custody Friday at a residence in Deltona following reports of narcotics distribution operating from the property. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood announced the arrest Tuesday via social media, identifying Vega as a chapter president within the Mongols organization. Deputies discovered cocaine during the search, some of which had been disposed of in a toilet in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence before law enforcement could secure it.

Vega faces serious criminal charges including possession of cocaine with intent to sell and four separate counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon. The weapons charges indicate Vega’s prior felony record, which legally prohibits him from possessing firearms under both federal and Florida state law. The combination of drug trafficking allegations and illegal weapons possession represents a significant case for prosecutors in the ongoing effort to combat organized criminal activity.
Children Removed from Scene
Two children were present inside the home during the execution of the search warrant and subsequent arrest. Sheriff Chitwood confirmed that deputies arranged for the minors to be released into the care of a family member.
