Adam Massman, a rising senior at Alma Center Lincoln High School, served as quarterback and defensive back for his team. He was injured during a game and received immediate medical attention from emergency medical technicians on site before being transported to the hospital. Despite medical intervention, Massman succumbed to his injuries, according to school district officials. His mother Brianne Massman, an elementary school counselor in the district, told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that the family was informed the injury resulted from helmet-to-helmet contact during play.

The loss struck particularly hard in the small Alma Center-Humbird-Merrillan School District, where the Massman family has extensive connections. Beyond his mother’s role as school counselor, Adam’s uncle and aunt serve as elementary school teachers, another uncle sits on the school board, and he has a sibling attending the junior high.
