Trump Wants Ted Cruz for THIS! Dems OUTRAGED!

President Donald Trump revived speculation about Senator Ted Cruz’s judicial future at a Texas campaign rally, making a tongue-in-cheek argument that the conservative senator would receive unanimous confirmation to the Supreme Court because both parties would welcome his departure from the Senate.

The Rally Remarks in Lubbock

Speaking at an October 27 midterm rally in Lubbock, Texas, Trump outlined his hypothetical strategy for filling a potential fourth Supreme Court vacancy. The president joked that nominating Cruz would eliminate the usual partisan confirmation battles that have characterized recent Supreme Court appointments. Trump suggested Democrats would vote for Cruz to remove him from the Senate, while Republicans would do the same, guaranteeing bipartisan support for his confirmation.

Cruz attended the rally supporting Texas Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton and appeared amused by Trump’s remarks, laughing from his front-row seat. The president praised Cruz as a brilliant lawyer and legal mind, referencing his service as Texas solicitor general from 2008 to 2013, during which he argued multiple cases before the Supreme Court. Cruz also clerked for Chief Justice William Rehnquist after graduating from Harvard Law School.

Cruz’s Political Ambitions

The Supreme Court suggestion arrives as Cruz, now 55, has openly discussed presidential ambitions for 2028. Other potential Republican contenders include Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, both Trump allies. A Supreme Court appointment would effectively remove Cruz from that emerging field, narrowing the competition for the Republican nomination.

Cruz has consistently rejected judicial service despite his impressive legal credentials. In September, he told the Houston Chronicle directly that he has no interest in becoming a judge. His relationship with Trump has evolved significantly since their contentious 2016 primary battle, with Cruz now serving as one of the president’s strongest Senate supporters.

Supreme Court Vacancy Questions

Whether Trump will have another opportunity to shape the high court remains uncertain. Justice Samuel Alito dismissed retirement speculation in August, confirming his plans to remain on the bench through at least the next session. This statement quieted speculation that the conservative justice might step down strategically to allow Trump to select his successor. Trump has already appointed three justices during his presidency, significantly reshaping the Court’s ideological balance and securing a conservative majority that has delivered major victories on Second Amendment rights, religious liberty, and constitutional interpretation.
