Federal authorities have identified three men accused of brutal racially-motivated attacks against a young couple and two Marine Corps officers at the Oceanside Pier in San Diego County, with hate crime charges pending following the violent June 2025 incidents.
The Attacks at Oceanside Pier
Austin Yohe, Johnny Lane, and Daniel Burns allegedly launched two separate assaults near the popular Southern California landmark. The first attack targeted a 21-year-old Asian man and his female companion. According to a federal search warrant, one assailant shouted a racial slur before slamming the victim’s head into a concrete wall and repeatedly punching him. The victim suffered severe head injuries and experienced memory problems for weeks afterward, unable to recall names of household items or certain family members.

The attackers allegedly identified themselves as skinheads during the assault. One told the victims they should recognize who they were dealing with, according to the warrant. The female companion escaped physical injury during the incident.
Marines Targeted in Second Attack
Shortly after, the trio allegedly attacked two Marine officers from nearby Camp Pendleton. The Marines, described as best friends in court documents, were subjected to repeated racial slurs. When they attempted to ignore the harassment, the men physically assaulted them, punching them in the head. During the attack, one assailant placed a white Marine in a headlock while calling him a derogatory term. Both Marines sustained head injuries, with one continuing to suffer from blurred vision in one eye.
Multiple witnesses observed the assaults and recorded video footage of the incidents. Law enforcement located two suspects near the pier and apprehended the third at a different location. All three claimed self-defense when questioned by police.
White Supremacist Connections
Federal investigators uncovered substantial evidence linking the suspects to white supremacist ideology. The search warrant reveals that Yohe maintains an Instagram account featuring the numbers 1488, a recognized white supremacist symbol. Photos show him wearing an Iron Cross, a German military decoration associated with the Nazi regime. Burns has a tattoo reading SKINHEAD on his arm. Investigators who accessed Lane’s Snapchat account found video of him performing a Nazi salute while shouting a Nazi phrase. Authorities identified two suspects as members of the white supremacist gang Hemet Coors 88.
Pending Federal Charges
Federal prosecutors are preparing charges including hate crimes, violent interference with federally protected rights, and conspiracy against all three men. No formal charges have been filed yet, but the investigation continues. The case highlights ongoing concerns about organized hate groups operating in Southern California and violent attacks targeting minorities and service members.
